By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria forward Rasheedat Ajibade ended a stint of five games without scoring for Spanish Liga F side, Atletico Madrid with a brace against Real Sociedad on Saturday as her team secured a 2-1 win.
The former Avaldnes forward last scored for the capital club against the same opponents and opened the scoring for the visitors in the sixth minute off Marta Cardona’s assist.
Three minutes later, Real Sociedad responded as Amaiur Sarriegi equalized for the hosts. Desperate to record back-to-back league wins, Atletico surged forward in the second half and were rewarded in the 47th minute.
Hannah Lundkvist set up Ajibade who converted her side and her second goal of the match and the goal ended the Nigerian forward five-match run without a goal.
The Super Falcon saw 93 minutes of action before being replaced by Lucia Moral after scoring her sixth league goal in 19 games.
Atletico Madrid occupy the fourth position in the league with 39 points after 20 games and lies a place and eight points behind the final UEFA Women’s Champions League spot occupied by Levante.
The team will next face Granada in the Copa de la Reina on March 8 before a league clash with City rivals, Real Madrid on March 12.
