Reading Forward Sone Aluko Urges Teammates to Maintain Winning Streak and Support Manager Stam
Nigerian forward, Sone Aluko, has called on his Reading teammates to continue their winning form in order to alleviate the pressure on manager Jaap Stam. After a series of disappointing results, Reading’s recent back-to-back victories against Nottingham Forest (3-1) and Derby County (4-2) have helped them move away from the relegation zone. Stam’s position had been called into question following a string of poor performances, but the former Manchester United player seems to have turned things around.
Aluko, who scored in both the victories against Forest and Derby, emphasized the need to give Stam the credit he deserves. In an interview with readingchronicle.co.uk, Aluko said, “I block out that noise. It doesn’t help the team and it doesn’t help the manager. We just focus on what we have to do and that is to win games. If we keep doing that and we keep putting on great performances, then his job will be secure.”
The 45-year-old manager’s role in Aluko’s decision to join Reading was also highlighted. Aluko expressed his belief that sacking Stam would not be a sensible decision, given the impact he has had on the team. Aluko stated, “He’s a big part of the reason I came here and it wouldn’t be a sensible decision to sack him.”
Reading now have a two-week break to refine their tactics, with some players joining their respective national teams. Aluko is optimistic about their upcoming home league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on November 18 and urges his teammates to build on their recent performances. He said, “It’s something to build on. We know we have set a benchmark, so we have to work from that and improve on it. There are some tough games coming up.”
Aluko believes that the recent victories have lifted the mood of the training ground, players, and staff, and he is confident that the team has the capability to continue their winning streak. He concluded, “It (the form) has been coming, but we have always had that capability.”
Reading’s supporters will undoubtedly hope that the team can maintain their winning momentum and provide Stam with the support he needs to guide the club to further success.
