Real Madrid prank catches Federico Valverde and team-mates with unexpected face filter

Federico Valverde was the unsuspecting victim of a playful Real Madrid prank after a member of the club’s media team handed him a phone fitted with a facial filter that dramatically altered his appearance.

The Uruguay midfielder had been asked to record a short video for Real Madrid’s social media channels after the end of the day’s training session. Unaware that the camera was operating with the filter switched on, Valverde looked at the phone and saw his face transformed on the screen.

His reaction quickly set off a wave of laughter among his team-mates, as he burst out laughing at the distorted image. The prank did not end with Valverde, however, as he then helped catch several other Real Madrid players in the same trap.

Brahim Diaz, Denzel Dumfries, Arda Guler and Vinicius Junior were each drawn into the joke after Valverde had discovered what was happening. The spontaneous scenes provided a glimpse of the relaxed mood within the Real Madrid squad and prompted further amusement among the players.

The club’s digital content manager was responsible for the setup, handing Valverde the mobile phone and asking him to make the recording without revealing the filter. The midfielder only realised that something was unusual when he checked the phone’s display and saw how extensively the effect had changed his features.

Real Madrid filmed the incident and later shared it across the club’s official platforms. The video attracted widespread interaction from supporters, many of whom enjoyed seeing the players caught off guard during what was presented as a light-hearted moment around the team’s training activities.

The episode offered a change of tone from the usual focus on football matters, with Valverde’s reaction becoming the central moment of the clip before the prank spread to his fellow players. Their involvement helped turn the original trick into a wider team joke, reflecting the positive atmosphere described inside the squad’s dressing room.

The video was published by Real Madrid as part of its social media content, where informal footage of players has continued to provide supporters with access to lighter moments away from competitive action.
