Rinsola Babajide rises to occasion with a goal and assist as Tenerife starts post Monday Gift era with victory

Nigeria forward, Rinsola Babajide had two goals involvement as Costa Adeje Tenerife recorded a 4-1 win against Espanyol in the Spanish Liga F women’s game on Saturday.

Raquel Pena Rodriguez opened scoring for the host from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute of play.

The momentum continued as Babajide set up Bicho for the second goal six minutes later.

Chamorro pulled a goal back for Espanyol in the 50th minute but it wasn’t enough as Tenerife scored two more goals to seal the win.

Linnea Laupstad made it 3-1 in the 54th minute before Babajide missed a penalty seven minutes later.

She redeemed herself by scoring the fourth goal for her team with a left-footed attempt inside the box.

The former Liverpool player was replaced by Claudia Blanco in the 83rd minute.

Babajide has scored nine goals with four assists in 21 games.

The game was the first for Costa Adeje Tenerife since their highest goal scorer, Monday Gift left for NWSL to play for Washington Spirit.

Another Nigeria, Amanda Mbadi was introduced for Espanyol in the 77th minute as Aroa Aparicio replaced her.

Costa Adeje Tenerife occupy the sixth position on the table with 35 points from 24 games.

They will next face Edna Imade’s Granada in another league encounter on April 23, 2025.
