The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced updated financial rewards for clubs participating in its interclub competitions, underlining its commitment to strengthening the financial base of African football.
Before the start of the preliminary round, all clubs received $50,000 from CAF as participation support.
Remo Stars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, and Kwara United started the CAF Inter club tournaments as Nigeria representatives.
In addition, clubs eliminated in the preliminary round will now get an extra $50,000, a move designed to cushion early exits and support operational costs.
Remo Stars, Abia Warriors, and Kwara United will benefit from this after crashing out in the preliminary rounds.
For teams progressing further, the stakes rise significantly:
CAF Confederation Cup group stage qualifiers are guaranteed $400,000.
CAF Champions League group stage qualifiers where Nigeria’s current sole representative, Rivers United fall will receive $700,000 which is up to one billion Naira.
This new financial structure is a major boost for participating teams, offering tangible rewards beyond on-field success.
African football, once driven primarily by pride and prestige, is increasingly becoming a space for investment, growth, and financial sustainability.
