Rivers United sign Nigerian goalkeeper Ifeanyi Emmanuel from Niger Tornadoes

Rivers United have signed Nigerian goalkeeper Ifeanyi Emmanuel from Niger Tornadoes as the Port Harcourt club reshapes its squad for the new NPFL campaign. The 24-year-old moves within the top flight after a year with the Minna side, joining Rivers United on a completed deal on 20 July 2026.

Emmanuel, who is valued at around €50,000, arrives as a specialist goalkeeper option and strengthens a key area of the squad ahead of domestic and continental commitments. The move keeps him in the Nigeria Premier Football League, with Rivers United looking to build depth and competition in goal.

The Lagos-born stopper began last season at Niger Tornadoes, having switched there from Akwa United in August 2025. His latest transfer marks the second successive year in which he has changed clubs, reflecting a rapid progression through established NPFL sides in a short period.

Emmanuel’s career to date has been entirely based in Nigeria, and his latest move to Rivers United represents a step into a team that has regularly challenged at the top end of the league. His arrival adds further NPFL experience and continuity within the domestic game.

Born on 8 April 2002, Emmanuel joins Rivers United at 24, an age at which many goalkeepers begin to establish themselves as first-choice options. Rivers United have now secured the long-term services of a Nigerian goalkeeper with recent experience at both Akwa United and Niger Tornadoes, completing his transfer ahead of the 2026-27 season.
