Roberto Di Matteo tasks Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen for Premier League glory

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has urged the club to target Victor Osimhen if they are serious about winning the Premier League.

The Italian tactician, who led Chelsea to their first UEFA Champions League title, believes that securing a top-class goalscorer is essential for the club to bridge the gap between their current position and their aspirations.

Having benefited from Didier Drogba’s goal-scoring contributions during his tenure, Di Matteo suggested that Chelsea should look to sign either Osimhen or Alexander Isak to fill the attacking void.

“I still think Chelsea needs a striker who is going to score them 25 goals a season—if you want to win the league or challenge, that’s what you need,” Di Matteo said, according to Mirror.

“That’s not a criticism of Nicolas Jackson, though. I like him a lot, and he’s someone who can only get better.”

He also pointed to Osimhen, who came close to joining Chelsea last summer before an agreement couldn’t be reached, as a potential solution.

“Up front, there are a couple of options you could go for. Alexander Isak at Newcastle—he’s been playing in the Premier League for a while now, so he knows very much what the league is about,” Di Matteo continued.

“Then you’ve got Victor Osimhen, who has already been linked with the club before, and he’s a top, top striker. I’d be looking at either of those two personally.”

With the Nigerian striker’s prolific form at Napoli, Osimhen could be a game-changing addition for Chelsea as they aim to challenge for domestic and European glory.
