Rumour Mills: Chelsea rekindles interest in Victor Osimhen

By Monsurah Olatunji

Chelsea has reportedly rekindled their interest in Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen after a failed move last summer, with the Nigerian forward continuing to impress this season.

The 26-year-old’s potential move to Stamford Bridge collapsed last year, which saw him join Turkish side Galatasaray on a season-long loan instead.

However, Osimhen’s outstanding form for both club and country has reignited Chelsea’s interest, with the club’s owner, Todd Boehly, set to pursue the Nigerian star once again.

According to reports, Serie A champions Napoli are demanding a fee of around €75 million to part ways with their prized asset, who clinched the 2023 Serie A Golden Boot.

As such, Osimhen’s suitors, including Arsenal and Manchester United, are gearing up for a competitive summer transfer window.

Italian outlet Il Mattino suggests that while Arsenal and United are also eyeing Osimhen, a move to Chelsea could be more appealing to the player. The report stresses that the Blues’ pursuit of the former VfL Wolfsburg striker never truly ended after last summer’s negotiations fell through; it was simply postponed.

Osimhen is reportedly waiting for the right offer to come through, and sources claim he harbors ambitions of a Premier League move, which further fuels speculation surrounding a potential transfer to England.

In addition, Chelsea’s chances of securing Osimhen’s services could be boosted if they finish in the Premier League’s top four, with the Blues currently holding 4th place, just a point ahead of Manchester City.
