Greek football powerhouse Olympiacos has reportedly shown interest in signing Nigerian defender Bruno Onyemaechi from Boavista during the ongoing transfer window, according to Nigeriafootball.ng.
Olympiacos, owned by the same Greek billionaire, Evangelos Marinakis, who also owns Premier League club Nottingham Forest, is looking to strengthen its defense.
Onyemaechi, 25, has been a standout performer for the Portuguese side despite their struggles this season.
The Nigerian international has scored two goals in 17 Liga Portugal appearances and was recently named Boavista’s Player of the Month for December.
Despite Boavista’s challenging season, sitting at the bottom of the Primeira Liga with just 12 points from 17 games, Onyemaechi’s solid performances have attracted interest from top clubs, including Turkey’s Trabzonspor, who had previously offered €2.5 million for the defender.
However, the payment structure of the offer did not align with Boavista’s expectations, leaving room for Olympiacos to step in.
Onyemaechi, who reportedly hopes to continue playing in one of Europe’s top leagues, is expected to move this window, though Boavista’s financial struggles—limiting their ability to sign new players—could make it difficult for them to let go of a key player like Onyemaechi.
Olympiacos will need to present a convincing offer to secure the Nigerian’s services.
