Rumour Mills: Porto planning summer exit for Zaidu Sanusi amid squad overhaul

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Portuguese giants FC Porto are reportedly preparing to part ways with Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi as part of a wider squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season.

According to club sources, Sanusi is one of nine first-team players likely to be sold this summer following a disappointing campaign that included an early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup and underwhelming domestic performances.

Sanusi, 26, has struggled to regain his form and fitness since suffering an ACL injury during the 2022/23 season.

The setback saw him lose his place in the starting lineup to Brazilian left-back Wendell, and he has since fallen down the pecking order at the Estádio do Dragão.

With two years remaining on his current contract, Porto are open to offers and are reportedly seeking a reasonable transfer fee as they aim to reshape their squad for the new season.

The Nigerian international joined Porto in 2020 and played a key role in their title-winning 2021/22 season, but injuries and inconsistency have limited his impact in recent campaigns.

The upcoming transfer window is expected to be busy for the Dragões, as the club looks to offload underperforming players and rebuild under a refreshed sporting strategy.
