Rumour Mills: Pumas UNAM closing in on move for Kelechi Iheanacho

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye

Mexican giants Pumas UNAM are reportedly plotting a move for Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who appears set to leave Sevilla following an underwhelming loan spell at Middlesbrough.

According to Express Sport UK, Iheanacho is nearing a transfer to Liga MX after a difficult campaign in the English Championship, where he managed just one goal in 15 appearances for Boro.

Despite returning to Sevilla for pre-season training, the 27-year-old’s future in Spain looks uncertain, with the La Liga side open to a permanent exit.

While Sevilla remain keen to offload the striker, interest from European clubs has so far been limited.

Pumas, however, have emerged as the frontrunners, with negotiations reportedly at an advanced stage and a deal believed to be close to completion.

Iheanacho, once tipped for stardom following his early rise at Manchester City, has struggled to find consistent form in recent years.

A move to Mexico could represent a fresh start and a chance to revive his career in a new environment.

More updates are expected in the coming days as talks progress.
