Nigeria winger Samuel Chukwueze says Nigeria are fully focused on securing victory when they face South Africa in Tuesday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
The Fulham FC player acknowledged the quality of the hosts but insisted Nigeria have the pedigree and talent to rise to the occasion.
“South Africa is a strong team. We have a good team as well. They are first in the group. We are Nigeria and a good team as well,” Chukwueze told NFFTV.
“The most important thing is to win here. We are focused on that.”
Nigeria currently sit third in Group C with 10 points and need a positive result to strengthen their qualification hopes, while South Africa lead the standings with 16 points.
Despite the challenge, Chukwueze expressed confidence that the Super Eagles will reach the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“We will be at the World Cup. It’s 100% sure. We just need the support from Nigerians. It’s up to us to make it,” he declared.
The 25-year-old also highlighted the quality within the squad, stressing that Nigeria’s talent will ultimately see them through.
“I believe in this team with great talent. We have to qualify. That is the most important thing,” Chukwueze added.
The highly anticipated clash will be staged at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, where both sides will be battling for supremacy in Africa’s Group C qualification race.
