Santa Alex Iwobi blesses 100 families with AleXpress

By: Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international Alex Iwobi is spreading holiday cheer by giving back to his community this Christmas season, blessing 100 families with a unique initiative.

The Super Eagles star has transformed a local shop into a free supermarket named “AleXpress,” where families in need can pick up everything they need for their Christmas dinner.

Iwobi’s decision to launch the AleXpress initiative is a testament to his commitment to supporting the community where he grew up. The 28-year-old midfielder reflected on his father’s tradition of giving back to others, sharing how his dad would often help family members in Nigeria and support neighbors in times of need.

“Even if I didn’t become a footballer, it was always something I was eager to do,” Iwobi said, according to The Telegraph. “It’s just in my nature.”

The event was planned to take place on Sunday, following Fulham’s match against Liverpool, with Iwobi determined to ensure its success despite the busy schedule.

“Canning Town is where I grew up. It’s the perfect place to give back. I will probably be tired after playing against Liverpool – it will be an intense game – but whether I get cramps or have no hamstrings, I will be there,” he said.

Iwobi added, “It’s nice to show I am human. I am the same as everyone else.”

His heartfelt gesture is sure to bring joy to many families this holiday season, reaffirming his commitment to making a positive impact both on and off the pitch.
