Schmidt: Osimhen’s Dedication Earns Him Recognition at Wolfsburg
VfL Wolfsburg manager, Martin Schmidt, has commended the relentless efforts of Victor Osimhen as he vies for a starting role at the club. Osimhen’s remarkable attitude during training sessions has not gone unnoticed, according to Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN)
Since Divock Origi’s arrival from Liverpool, he has been the preferred choice up front, with Osimhen and Landry Dimata serving as the second and third choice strikers respectively.
Although Osimhen has only made five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga this season, accumulating just 22 minutes on the pitch, Schmidt believes the young Nigerian is on the cusp of breaking through. Speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt at the Volkswagen Arena, Schmidt stated, “They (Landry Dimata and Victor Osimhen) are not far off and are putting pressure on him (Origi).”
Schmidt further emphasized that the training sessions have highlighted the team’s attacking depth, saying, “What Divock has in his favor right now is that he scored in autumn. However, Dimata and Osimhen are performing exceptionally well, and I have full faith in the strikers available to me. The squad is now better balanced.”
Wolfsburg currently occupies the 12th position in the Bundesliga table, having accumulated 20 points from 18 games. Schmidt’s acknowledgment of Osimhen’s hard work suggests that the young striker may receive more game time in the upcoming fixtures.
