Nigerian defender, Tyrone Ebuehi came off the bench to make a meaningful impact as his assist gave Empoli for Viktor Kovalenko’s goal secured a shock win over Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

The Super Eagles’ defender who will be joining the Nigerian camp anytime soon for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers will be leaving his club base a proud man following his impact.

Empoli added more salt to the wound of the Partenopei who are now eight points from the summit with just 12 Serie A games.

The league champions started the encounter well and could have had their nose in front at half time, no thanks to glitch edge misses from Matteo Pollitano and Zambo Anguissa.

With his top striker, Victor Osimhen out injured, Coach Rudi Garcia brought in Kvicha Kvaratskhelia in the second half to add more bites to Napoli’s attack but Empoli’s goalkeeper, Merisha was at his best to ward off subsequent pressures.

At the game was heading to stalemate, Ebuehi who was also introduced at half time delivered a nice pass that was brilliantly dispatched beyond Napoli keeper by Kovalenko.

The visitors held on to clinch a famous triumph, which was only their second in 15 away trips.

For Napoli, the signs are no longer looking good for them as they are now far cry from how they started the season.
