“She is unique and special” – Al-Ittihad’s Kelly Lindsey extols Ashleigh Plumptre’s qualities

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Head coach of Saudi Arabia Women’s side, Al-Ittihad’s  has praised the extraordinary qualities exhibited by Nigeria defender, Ashleigh Plumptre.

Plumptre has been an instant fix into the Al-Ittihad squad since joining the team after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

She joined the Asian side from the English Women’s Super League (WSL) outfit, Leicester City.

While responding to Plumptre’s reaction on Ed Bower’s podcast where she defined success, Lindsey said it is something special to work with such kind of play.

“It’s special to work with athletes driven by a journey to fulfill their authentic identity and purpose through the unique journey that athletics / elite high performance provides – @ashplumptre is unique and special, yet everyone can be vulnerable and strive to unlock their purpose,” Lindsey posted on X.

Plumptre defined “success” in a different way when asked on Ed Bower’s podcast.

“Success is in my opinion aligning in your endeavors, actions, and decision-making or aligning what you do with who you are,” Plumptre said.

“Like it is nothing you see on social media or television but what makes you fulfilled which can only be answered by an individual.”

Plumptre who played for England at an underage level before switching to the Nigeria senior women’s national team was part of the Super Falcons squad at the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and last World Cup.

She is in the team that is expected to face South Africa in the final round of Qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
