Sheroes Cup Day One Wrap: Nasarawa sink Confluence, Royal Queens pip Adamawa

A goal in each half saw Nasarawa Amazons getting a 2-0 win over Confluence Queens in one of the opening day’s fixtures of the 2022 Sheroes Cup in Abuja.
The preseason tourney formerly known as Flying Officers Cup and put together by Ratels Foundation was organized to prepare women’s clubs for the new Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL Premiership season.
Ayatsea Hembatau rose higher to nod home for the Amazons inside opening ninth minute of the contest.
Dooshima Tarnum doubled the lead three minute into second half as she benefited from poor goalkeeping by Confluence Queens keeper, Echifu Silva.
The Queens also had their moments in the match but the day seemed not theirs with series of chances went begging.
The opening day of the competition started with early encounter between Adamawa Queens and Royal Queens that produced less talking points but a victory was recorded.
After a less entertaining first half, Royal Queens proved the better side in the second and were rewarded with the only goal that separated both sides.
Deborah Peter was the woman that settle the duel and earned the win for the Delta based side and she did so by moving into space in the box before heading the ball into the top corner.
The 2pm encounter was between former champions of the preseason tournament, Edo Queens and Championship side, Honey Badgers.
The girls from Makurdi gave a goof account of themselves despite making a late inclusion to the tourney replacing Heartland Queens but Edo Queens expectedly have their ways with experience counted for them.
Two second half goals, both coming from Suliyat Abideen including a late penalty handed the girls from Benin a bright start to the campaign.
The final match of Day One was between two Premier League sides, Delta Queens and Naija Ratels that was witnessed by capacity crowd at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
It ended 1-0 in favor of Delta Queens who controlled most parts of the match from inception. They got their only goal in the first half when Mercy Omokwo turned a brilliant cross from Arit Usang.
Matches continue tomorrow with exciting fixtures.
