Sopuruchukwu Obieri joins Evesham from Cheltenham on loan
England and Nigeria forward Sopuruchukwu Obieri has joined Evesham from Cheltenham on loan, completing a move for the 2026-27 season.
The 18-year-old centre-forward made the switch on 14 August 2026, with the agreement scheduled to run until 31 May 2027. No transfer fee has been disclosed for the move.
Obieri arrives at Evesham having spent the previous season moving between Cheltenham and two loan clubs. He began the 2025-26 campaign with Gloucester before returning to Cheltenham in January 2026, having made that temporary move in July 2025.
The striker’s latest transfer represents another loan opportunity away from Cheltenham, where he first moved from the club’s under-18 side in July 2024. He subsequently gained senior football experience through spells with Hungerford, Worcester and Gloucester.
Obieri joined Hungerford on loan in January 2025 and returned to Cheltenham the following month. He then moved to Worcester in February 2025 before going back to his parent club at the end of that season.
The forward is 1.80m tall and prefers to use his right foot. He is eligible to represent both England and Nigeria, while his listed club affiliation remains Cheltenham during the temporary move to Evesham.
His arrival comes at the start of the 2026-27 campaign, with the transfer recorded as a loan from Cheltenham rather than a permanent departure. The agreement also establishes a return to Cheltenham at its scheduled conclusion.
Obieri’s playing history has so far been shaped by a series of temporary moves since stepping up from Cheltenham’s youth set-up. His latest spell takes him to Evesham for the duration of the current campaign, adding another club to his early senior career.
The move was completed on 14 August, and Obieri is contracted to remain with Evesham until 31 May 2027 before returning to Cheltenham.
