Sport minister carpets NFF over Bruno Labbadia controversial Eagles coaching saga

By Saheed Afolabi

Nigeria’s Minister of Sport, Senator John Enoh, has addressed the controversy surrounding the failed appointment of Bruno Labbadia as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

Labbadia was initially announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as the new national team coach. However, the deal fell through when the NFF refused to cover the German coach’s tax liabilities, a term that was not previously discussed.

Enoh expressed his disappointment with the situation, calling it “very embarrassing and regrettable.”

He criticized the NFF for the premature announcement, stating, “This was very embarrassing and regrettable,” as reported by Arise TV.

Enoh further explained, “I quickly reached out to the NFF to ask why they announced the coach’s appointment before finalizing everything. Their response was that they had received a commitment from the coach.”

Following the NFF’s decision to withdraw from the agreement with Labbadia, Augustine Eguavoen has been reappointed as interim head coach.

Eguavoen, who had previously headed the technical department of the Glass House, will be supported by Enugu Rangers coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and Remo Stars head coach Daniel Ogunmodede until a permanent appointment is made.
