Stanley Nwabali: Bafana legend urges Orlando Pirates to sign Nigerian goalkeeper

By Wale Mustapha
Retired South African goalkeeper Thabang Stemmer has underscored the potential impact of Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali if he joins Orlando Pirates.
The Pirates are among several clubs interested in signing the Super Eagles goalkeeper, who has been outstanding over the past two years.
Nwabali captured attention with his heroic saves during the last African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament held in Ivory Coast. His performances have also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia’s El-Ettifaq, Queen Park Rangers, and Kaizer Chiefs.
Pirates recently released two of their goalkeepers, Richard Ofori and Siyabonga Mpontshane, following the expiration of their contracts. Stemmer, who once played for Pirates, believes Nwabali would significantly enhance the team’s goalkeeping strength.
“The reason Pirates released the two, I think it’s because they want to beef up with Stanley Nwabali,” Stemmer told Kickoff. “Even when I was still playing, Pirates always beefed up with top goalkeepers. All the big teams need top goalkeepers.
“Remember Pirates go deeper in all competitions. If Nwabali comes, it would be a good thing for Pirates. We need competition.”
Stemmer’s endorsement highlights the value that Nwabali could bring to Orlando Pirates, reinforcing their goalkeeping department and contributing to the team’s success across multiple competitions.
