Stephen Odey Makes Impact in FC Zurich’s Victory in Maiden Start

Nigerian striker Stephen Odey marked his first league start for Swiss club FC Zurich with a significant contribution to their 3-1 triumph over St. Gallen in the Switzerland Super League clash at the Kybunpark on Sunday.
Although Odey was substituted during the match, his presence in the starting lineup proved influential for FC Zurich. Ghanaian forward Raphael Dwamena, who came on for Odey, sealed the victory by scoring the third goal for FC Zurich.
This victory was Odey’s second appearance in the league since his transition from Nigeria Professional Football League club MFM FC. While he has featured in two cup games for FC Zurich, the young forward made his league debut in the 2-1 defeat against Young Boys on November 19.
Despite being named as an unused substitute six times for the club, Odey’s impactful performance on his first league start is a positive sign for FC Zurich. The team secured a 2-0 lead in the encounter with goals from Victor Palsson and Adrian Winter, and although Roman Buess pulled one back for the hosts, Dwamena’s goal in the closing minutes secured the three points for FC Zurich.
The club maintains their position in the league, currently third and eight points behind league leaders Young Boys, who suffered a 3-1 defeat against FC Thun on Sunday. Odey’s growing role in the team promises to be a significant factor as FC Zurich continues its campaign in the Switzerland Super League.
