Super Eagles coach Ogunmodede vows to treat 2025 AFCON qualifiers as finals
By Saheed Afolabi
Nigeria’s assistant coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has emphasized that the Super Eagles will approach their remaining two matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with the utmost seriousness, treating each game like a cup final.
With 10 points from four matches, the Super Eagles currently top their group and are in a strong position to qualify for the tournament.
However, Ogunmodede, who also manages Remo Stars, stressed that the team will not relax and that winning the remaining fixtures remains the priority.
“Every match we want to approach it like a cup final, we want to win all matches,” Ogunmodede told the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). “I’m not aware we needed just one point to qualify, so we just want to win regardless of the number of points left to qualify.”
The assistant coach reaffirmed the Super Eagles’ commitment to ensuring qualification and to maintaining a winning mentality throughout the qualifiers.
“First, the priority is for us to qualify, and secondly, according to the head coach, to win all games as they come and the maximum of three points is what is important to us,” he added.
With only two games remaining in the AFCON qualifiers, Ogunmodede’s comments reflect the team’s determination to finish strong and secure their spot at the 2025 tournament.
The Super Eagles are focused on maintaining their top position and building momentum as they prepare for their next challenges.
