In sports, there is a winning as well as losing mentality. Former Super Eagles player, Sam Sodje says players of Super Eagles at this moment have a losing mentality.
According to Sodje, the players need to convert the losing mentality into a winning mentality to get a good result during their next set of games.
This statement is coming after the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s 4-0 bashing at the hands of Portugal last week in an internal friendly match.
“Winning games give you the confidence to come back again. When a team starts losing games irrespective of whether it is a competitive or friendly match, the mentality of losing games become a norm,” Sodje told Brila FM.
“That is what we don’t want with the Super Eagles. Right now, even if we score four goals, we can concede five. Even when you score an early goal, you still believe that you will lose 2-1.”
Nigeria has lost its last three games (friendly matches) after thrashing Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers in June.
The team has lost to Algeria (2-1), Costa Rica (2-0), and recently Portugal (4-0).
After playing its last match in 2022, Nigeria will now focus on returning to winning ways in March 2023 against Guinea Bissau in AFCON Qualifiers.
