By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
As football enthusiasts continue to show displeasure with the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s recent 4-0 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly match, the Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Football Association (FA), Alhaji Adam Mouktar has also lend his voice to the tropical issue.
The 2022 Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Presidential candidate has said the recent shambolic performances of the Super Eagles is a new low.
In his reaction, the FCT FA Chairman said it is hard to understand how quickly the Super Eagles have become a laughing stock.
“Their performance was abysmal. I am speechless. I really don’t know who to talk to and even what to say. It seems most have accepted our new low,” Mouktar told Daily Trust.
“Nobody has apologised, explained, resigned, or taken responsibility. It is as if nothing has happened. Nigerians must reject this new low. It is unacceptable.”
Two well-taken goals in each half, propelled Portugal to a 4-0 defeat of the Super Eagles last Thursday in the first-ever senior international clash between both nations, with the Eagles failing to measure up to the 2016 European champions in Lisbon.
Nigeria’s shambolic display against Portugal has drawn lots of criticism from former Super Eagles players, football administrators, and enthusiasts alike.
Super Eagles under Peseiro is yet to defeat any team outside the continent since taking over the reins of the team with victories over African teams in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers.
