Super Eagles Soar Into World Cup Play-off Final After Thrilling Win Over Gabon

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria senior men’s national team have booked their place in the FIFA World Cup Play-off Final after a thrilling 4–1 victory over Gabon in the semi-final clash played in Morocco.

After a cagey opening and a goalless first half, the match burst into life in the latter stages. Akor Adams broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, sparking jubilation among Nigerian supporters.

However, Gabon quickly responded through Mario Lemina in the 89th minute to push the tie into extra time.

In the extra period, Nigeria’s attacking brilliance came to the fore. Chidera Ejuke restored the lead with a composed finish in the 97th minute before Victor Osimhen delivered a decisive brace in the 102nd and 110th minutes to seal the emphatic win.

From end-to-end action to moments of individual brilliance, the Super Eagles displayed grit, class, and determination to secure their passage to the final.

The victory sees Nigeria advance to face the winner of Cameroon vs DR Congo in Sunday’s final — a decisive showdown for a coveted spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A memorable night for Nigerian football — and one step closer to the ultimate dream.
