Super Eagles to know 2025 AFCON foes in January

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) deliberated on the CAF Competitions Calendar for 2025 and beyond ahead of the annual awards on Monday.

CAF President Dr Motsepe announced the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 Final Draw will be held in Rabat, Morocco, on 27 January 2025.

24 teams qualified for the tournament which will take place in December 2025.

They are host Morocco, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Angola, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Cote D’Ivoire, Gabon, Uganda, South Africa, Tunisia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mali, Comoros, Sudan, Benin Republic, Tanzania, Botswana, and Mozambique.

Super Eagles will face three other teams in the group stage with a chance of reaching the final consecutively.

At the 2023 AFCON, the three-time African champions reached the final as host, Cote D’Ivoire won their third title.

Out of their three African titles, Nigeria has won two outside the country in Tunisia (1994) and South Africa (2013).

Their maiden title was clinched on home soil in 1980.
