Nigeria’s senior women’s national team will rekindle rivalry with African champions, South Africa in the fourth round of Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifiers.

On Monday, the Super Falcons edged Cameroon to a 1-0 aggregate triumph to reach the final round of the Qualifiers.

On Tuesday, South Africa followed suit with a 1-0 win over Tanzania in the return leg of the third round at the Mbombela Stadium.

The first leg ended 3-0 in favour of the Banyana Banyana in Tanzania.

The Tanzanians thought they had taken the lead in the 37th minute but their goal was ruled out for offside.

South Africa survived the onslaught to score the winning goal in the 58th minute from a typical training ground routine on the 100th cap of Jermaine Seopensowe.

Kholosa Biyana’s lowly played free kick was converted into the bottom left corner by Thembi Kgathlana.

The Southern African side secured a 4-0 aggregate win over Tanzania and will face Nigeria in the final round next month.

Between April 1-9, the first leg is slated for Abuja while the return leg is expected to take place at the Mbombela Stadium.

The winner on aggregate will pick one of two slots from Africa for the women’s football event of Paris 2024 Olympics.
