Super Falcons Seek Response Against Cameroon In Yaounde Friendly

Reigning African champions Nigeria women’s national football team will aim to bounce back when they take on Cameroon women’s national football team in the second of their pre-WAFCON international friendlies on Tuesday at the Military Stadium.

The Super Falcons suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat in Saturday’s first encounter, conceding deep into stoppage time in what many observers have described as a timely wake-up call ahead of this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Cameroon, who are drawn in Group D alongside Ghana, Mali and Cape Verde, secured victory through a dramatic late strike from Yvana Mbomezomo. Her long-range effort in added time beat debutant goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor for the only goal of the match.

Despite conceding, Erhabor impressed on her senior international debut, showing composure and confidence throughout the contest.

Head coach Justin Madugu introduced several second-half substitutes in a bid to shift momentum, including Joy Omewa, Precious Christopher, Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Onyenezide and Michelle Alozie. However, Cameroon goalkeeper Ange Bawou delivered a standout display to deny Nigeria an equaliser.

Tuesday’s fixture concludes the two-match arrangement organised by both federations as part of preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Madugu is expected to tweak both tactics and personnel as Nigeria chase a more convincing performance. The Falcons, 10-time continental champions, famously defeated Cameroon 1–0 in the final of the 2016 Women AFCON and will be keen to reassert their dominance.

First-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie could return between the posts, while Alozie may be handed a starting berth alongside defenders Oluwatosin Demehin, Osinachi Ohale and Glory Ogbonna.

Midfield options remain strong, with Onyenezide, Christopher, Ucheibe, Ngozi Okobi-Okeoghene and Jennifer Echegini all available for selection.

In attack, captain Rasheedat Ajibade is expected to lead the line, supported by Gift Monday, Rinsola Babajide, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Ijamilusi.

With WAFCON fast approaching, the Super Falcons will treat Tuesday’s clash as a crucial opportunity to sharpen preparations — and restore confidence — ahead of the continental showpiece.
