Taiwo Awoniyi, Emmanuel Dennis fail to rescue Forest from heavy defeat at Emirates

By Wale Mustapha

The duo of Super Eagles’ strikers, Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis were in action for Nottingham Forest on Sunday but they could not help from suffering huge defeat against Arsenal.

The match at Emirates Stadium ended 5-0 in favor of the Gunners who returned to winning ways in a specular version and also to the summit of Premier League.

Gabriel Martinelli has headed in the opening goal for the host in the first half before the hosts went gun blazing in the second half with four goals, two from substitute Reiss Nelson who replaced injured Bukayo Sako in the first half.

Awoniyi who broke the heart of his former employer, Liverpool last week with the winning goal for Forest started the match but was kept in the cooler by Arsenal defenders for most part of it.

The few moments he had from a header in the first half and a half volley in the second were not strong enough to trouble Arsenal goalkeeper. He would then be subbed off with less than half hour to end the game.

Awoniyi’s compatriot, Dennis was a second half substitute as he replaced Jesse Lingard but the former Watford striker was less of impact as Arsenal were even more powerful.

The victory made the Gunners to have now won their last eight Premier League games against newly-promoted sides.
