Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi has narrate the secret behind his viral goal against Manchester United.
His goal against United in the second game of the season was voted Nottingham Forest Goal of the Month for August despite scoring 3 goals in 3 games.
The 26-year-old was in superb form as the Tricky Tee gave United a scare in the five-goal thriller at Old Trafford.
Awoniyi laid down Manchester United new goalkeeper Andre Onana after outpacing Marcus Rashford to tap in empty net and gave his side a two-goal lead.
He also became the third African to score in seven successive matches in Premier League history alongside Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Togo’s Emmanuel Adebayor.
Speaking to Pulse Sports on the goal that won him the Goal of the Month award, Awoniyi shared tips on how he beat his African brother, Onana.
“That goal – that kind of situation and that goal against Manchester United is something that I really thought of like a day before the game,” Awoniyi said.
“Not about the amount of space, you visualise the possibility of a one-on-one with the keeper. That, ‘OK, if you get yourself one-on-one with the keeper, how do you go past the keeper?’
“Looking at (Andre) Onana, with his experience, we had only two possibilities.
“The first one was, for you to score [against] him, you have to chip; like, literally aim to lift it over because he’s kind of really quick to the ground.
“The second one was just that you keep on faking and faking. So I (went) for the second one, and it worked.”
