By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward Taiwo Lawal scored her second goal of the season as Atasehir Belediyespor succumbed to a 5-2 loss against Galatasaray in a Turkish women’s topflight encounter on Saturday.

Benan Altinatas opened this scoring for the host in the 14th minute before Mariem Houij doubled the lead for Galatasaray in the 38th minute from the penalty spot.

After the halftime break, Lawal reduced the deficit for Atasehir in the 51st minute, with her second goal of the season since she joined from Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, FC Robo Queens.

Ebru Topcu restored Galatasaray’s two-goal lead in the 59th minute while Arzu Akkurt increased the lead to 4-1 with six minutes remaining in the time.

Sofia Iaderosa pulled one back for Atasehir in the 94th minute but Akkurt’s second goal of the game a minute later sealed a 5-2 win.

Atasehir remained bottom of the log with a point after eight games. The team will next face Vivian Ikechukwu and Glory Ogbonna’s Besiktas on November 5.
