Tony Payne elated with Everton switch

Nigerian international Tony Payne is thrilled about her move to the English Women’s Super League (WSL) side, Everton.

Payne, who previously had a successful spell with Sevilla in Spain, is gearing up for a new challenge in England.

The Super Falcons midfielder expressed her excitement and described the move to Everton as a dream come true. She highlighted the club’s rich history and the strong competition in the WSL as major factors in her decision to join the Merseyside team.

“I’m super excited to be an Everton player. It’s been my dream to play in the UK and in such a strong league like the WSL,” Payne said in an interview with Everton TV.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to play at a club like Everton with so much history in football. Now was the right moment for me to look for another challenge to push myself. It’s going to be different and new, and I’m really happy about my decision.”

Payne also noted the rapid growth of the WSL and the league’s investment in teams as aspects that drew her to England. She believes Everton is the perfect fit for her style of play and her goals for personal growth and improvement.

“You can see just how much the players are growing here at Everton. I think this is going to be a great fit for me because that’s what I want. I want to grow, I want to improve, and this is the perfect place for me to achieve that,” she added. “I’m impressed with the way we play. I think it fits my style and how I want to play. I cannot wait to get started.”

At 29 years old, Payne is Everton’s first summer signing under the guidance of head coach Brian Sorensen. She looks forward to contributing to the team and making her mark in one of the world’s most competitive women’s football leagues.
