Trabzonspor announce talks to sign Mohamed Salah after pyramid teaser
Trabzonspor have officially announced that negotiations are under way to sign Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, after the Turkish club appeared to hint at the move by posting a video of the Egyptian pyramids.
The statement was published on Trabzonspor’s official account on X on Tuesday evening.
“Negotiations have begun regarding the transfer of Mohamed Salah to our club,” the club said.
Trabzonspor did not provide further information about the proposed deal. The club did not disclose the potential transfer fee, the length of any contract or the current stage of discussions between the two parties.
Shortly before issuing the statement, Trabzonspor’s official social media account shared a video showing the pyramids in Egypt. The post was interpreted as a signal that the club was close to reaching an agreement with Salah.
Reports in the Turkish media had previously claimed that Trabzonspor had agreed terms with Salah and his agent, Ramy Abbas, over a two-year contract. The same reports said the 34-year-old was expected to travel to Turkey in the coming hours to sign the deal, with an official announcement of the transfer to follow.
Those reports have not been confirmed in detail by Trabzonspor, whose statement only referred to the opening of negotiations.
Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season and had been linked with a number of clubs since his departure. One of the strongest reported options was another Turkish side, Besiktas, although talks with that club subsequently broke down.
The Egyptian forward was also linked with several clubs in Saudi Arabia, including Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah and Al-Diriyah.
Trabzonspor’s announcement therefore represents the clearest public indication so far that the club is pursuing a move for Salah. However, the statement did not confirm that an agreement had been completed or that a contract had been signed.
The social media activity also formed part of the club’s apparent effort to build anticipation around the potential transfer. The pyramid video was published only minutes before the official statement, creating a direct visual reference to Salah’s Egyptian nationality.
A separate video item also referred to a fan asking Salah to join Trabzonspor and showed his reaction. No further details about that exchange were included in the announcement.
For now, Trabzonspor have confirmed only that discussions have started. The reported two-year agreement, Salah’s possible journey to Turkey and the timing of any official unveiling remain part of the claims reported by Turkish media rather than details included in the club’s statement.
