Transfer Rumour: Frankfurt eye Newcastle’s Nigeria-eligible William Osula for January loan move

By Oluwadamilola Olaleye
Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt are reigniting their interest in William Osula, a Nigeria-eligible striker currently on the books of Newcastle United, with fresh talks underway ahead of the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old forward, who has struggled for first-team minutes at Newcastle this season, is open to a loan move abroad in a bid to secure regular playing time and reignite his development.
Frankfurt Keen on Loan Deal With Option to Buy
According to sources close to the negotiations, Frankfurt are exploring a loan deal with an option to buy, having previously attempted to sign Osula on Deadline Day this summer, only for the move to fall through at the final stage.
Osula is seen by Frankfurt’s technical team as a versatile and dynamic attacking option, capable of bolstering their front line for the second half of the season as they chase European qualification in the Bundesliga.
Who Is William Osula?
Age: 22
Current club: Newcastle United
Nationality: Danish-born, eligible for Nigeria, France, and Denmark
Youth career: Sheffield United, Derby County
International eligibility: Eligible for Nigeria through his father, as well as France and Denmark
Born in Aarhus, Denmark, to a Nigerian-French father and Danish mother, Osula has represented Denmark at youth level, but remains eligible for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, a prospect that has sparked growing interest within Nigerian football circles.
Limited Role at Newcastle Opens Door for Exit
Having joined Newcastle as a developmental prospect, Osula has yet to break into Eddie Howe’s first-team plans, spending most of his time with the club’s U23 setup or on the bench. With limited minutes and fierce competition in attack, both the player and his representatives are actively seeking opportunities for more consistent action elsewhere.
What Frankfurt See in Osula
Frankfurt scouts reportedly view Osula as a long-term project with immediate impact potential, praising his physicality, intelligent movement, and ability to play across the front three.
Should a deal be agreed in January, the loan could include a purchase option, contingent on his performances in the Bundesliga — a move that could provide both career momentum for the player and depth for Frankfurt’s evolving attack.
