Nigeria’s William Troost-Ekong faced an unfortunate turn of events, receiving his first red card in Bursaspor’s continued struggle in the Turkish Super Lig. The team’s winless streak since the league resumed persisted with a crushing 5-0 defeat against Galatasaray, further complicating their season.
Troost-Ekong’s expulsion occurred in the 38th minute, adding to Bursaspor’s woes in a match that also saw Super Eagles’ Mikel Agu and Shehu Abdullahi in action for the struggling side. The dominant performance from Galatasaray, led by a hat-trick from Bafetimbi Gomis (in the 11th, 72nd, and 90th minutes), coupled with goals from Garry Rodriguez (42nd minute) and Serdar Aziz (49th minute), secured a convincing victory, propelling Galatasaray to the league’s summit with 47 points.
Bursaspor’s disappointing display further drops them to 12th place in the 18-team league, garnering 27 points. This defeat accentuates their recent poor form, with the team enduring a frustrating six-game winless streak comprising four losses and two draws.
Their last taste of victory in the league dates back to December 2017, securing a 3-0 away win against Konyaspor. However, since then, Bursaspor has struggled to replicate that success, facing a turbulent phase in their campaign.
Troost-Ekong’s dismissal served as a pivotal moment in a match that further underscores Bursaspor’s ongoing challenges. As they navigate this challenging period, the team seeks a turnaround in form to rekindle their aspirations in the league.
