Having brought home the German top-flight title for the first time in the club’s 120-year history, Nigeria forward Victor Boniface has now set his target on helping Leverkusen to a treble, with the DFB-Pokal and UEFA Europa League both still up for grabs as well.
The Nigeria International scored the opening goal and assisted in another as Bayer Leverkusen humbled Werden Bremen 5-0 to clinch their first-ever Bundesliga title in style on Sunday at the BayArena.
Despite missing four months of action due to injury, Boniface’s goal-scoring prowess has been instrumental to Leverkusen’s title race, taking his tally to 11 goals and nine assists in 18 Bundesliga appearances (18 goals and 10 assists in 27 games across all competitions).
Xabi Alonso’s men sealed the title with five matches left to play, ending Bayern Munich’s 11-year reign in the process, and now have the chance to become the first side to go unbeaten in an entire Bundesliga season.
Die Werkself are already through to the final of the DFB Pokal where they will take on Kaiserslautern.
The German side also already have one leg in the semi-final of the Europa League after defeating West Ham United 2-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final contest and the 23-year-old expressed more hunger to win more titles.
“Of course, we have two [more] important trophies we are aiming at. We are in the DFB-Pokal Cup final, and we are also in the [UEFA] Europa League quarter-finals,” Boniface told Soccernet.
“So it doesn’t stop here. So we have to push hard. We know we won the league, it’s a big achievement for us.
“But we also have two things [trophies] we are aiming at. So if we can have the perfect three, of course, we will celebrate more.”
