Nigeria U17 men’s national team striker, Tochukwu Ogbabido has revealed that Morocco will be a tough opponent for them in their second Group B match at the 2023 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Wednesday.
While the Young Atlas Lions defeated South Africa 2-0 on Sunday, Golden Eaglets won 1-0 against Zambia and the results see Nigeria sits second behind Morocco and could book quarterfinal spot with a win in Constantine.
Nduka Ugbade-led U17 side will aim put their names in the history books by clinching Nigeria its third U-17 AFCON title and the Jossy United striker assures that the team is up to the task despite facing a tough North African side.
“Morocco is a really tough opponent and we respect them a lot. They are a good side and we saw this from their game against South Africa,” Ogbabido told CAFOnline.com.
“We will definitely step up to do our best and try to create victory because it is important for us to advance to the next round.”
Nigeria is joint record champions of the competition having won in Seychelles in 2001, and in Togo in 2007, but have failed to make the finals in ten years.
The four teams to make the semifinals of the competition are expected to represent Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup, a tournament that Nigeria have won on five occasions.
