U17 WWC: Edidiong shines as Flamingos bow to George’s Fenerbache

Nigeria’s U17 girls, the Flamingos bowed to leading Turkish women’s club, Fenerbache Women 3-1 in a friendly match in the Turkish town of Fenerbache on Tuesday.
The Flamingos arrivied in Turkey on Tuesday for a 10-day training camp ahead of this year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup finals in India with a 3-1 victory over Galatasarary women two days ago.
Opeyemi Ajakaye and Etim Edidiong’s brace was all the Nigerians required to silence the Turkish side despite Ebru Topliv’s consolation in the Turkish town of Kocaeli on Saturday.
This time, they wrapped up preparation in Turkey for the test match against senior team of another Turkish giants Fenerbahche in the buildup to the 16-nation global youth women’s tournament in India.
The hosts drew the first blood as Busan Seker opened the scoring in the 35th minute for the Turkish side to claim a narrow first leg lead. After the break, the home side doubled the advantage thanks to the second from Seker in the 80th minute before Etim Edidiong reduced the deficit in the 90th minute.
On the brink of regulation time, Ivorian striker Nina Kpaho guaranteed Fenerbahche’s victory deep inside the additional time when she netted the third of the encounter. In the contest, Nigeria wing back, Patricia George was in action for the Turkish side after coming on in the second half of the warm-up encounter.
Following their two-match friendlies during their camping in Turkey, Bankola Olowookere’s side are scheduled to depart for India on Thursday.
The Flamingos will be facing one of the toughest nuts to crack when they take on Germany in their first match of the campaign in Goa on Tuesday, 11th October.
