U20 AFCON: Dosu Joseph confident Flying Eagles can turn around results
By Saheed Afolabi
Atlanta 96 gold medalist, Dosu Joseph is confident the Nigeria U20 team can still churn out positive results in their next two group matches at the U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Ladan Bosso’s side were defeated by the junior Teranga Lions 1-0 in their opening group A game as a solitary strike from Souleymane Faye was enough to see off the Flying Eagles.
Despite the unfortunate start, Dosu however expressed optimism of seeing the Flying Eagles reaching the knockout stage and urged the players to focus on their next game against the Egyptian side.
“It’s sad that the Flying Eagles failed to kickstart the competition with a win against Senegal despite the odds favouring them to win,” the ex-international said.
“Well, that is the game of football because you can’t win every game. Yes, I was disappointed that the team lost, however, I am optimistic they can still bounce back to winning way against Egypt.
“The players must shift focus now to Egypt game if they make to the knock out stages of the competition.”
Nigeria will try to redeem their image as they face host Egypt on Wednesday 22nd of February 2022 and the Flying Eagles are bottom of group A with zero points and a win against Egypt will give them a lifeline to advance.
