U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier: Nigeria to face Mauritius after Chad withdrawal

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria national U-20 women’s national team will face Mauritius in the second round of the Colombia 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers in October.
In July’s African qualifying draw in Egypt, the Falconets were earlier drawn bye as one of African representatives at the last edition in Costa Rica and billed to play the winner of the first-round game between Mauritius and Chad.
The first round encounter earlier scheduled to take place in the first week of September will no longer hold after the withdrawal of Chad from the qualifying series due to unconfirmed reasons.
With Chad’s withdrawal, Mauritius will progress without kicking the ball to set up a second round date with Nigeria.
The ongoing qualifiers will determine the two African representatives at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria will hope to make it to another edition in Colombia next year after reaching the final twice, losing on both occasions to Germany and failing to go past the quarter-final in the 2022 edition.
