Umar Zango deploying defensive’s experience to propel Mailtantarki Care FC
By Wale Mustapha
Umar Zango has revealed how his wealth of experience as a player are counting for good since becoming a coach.
Zango had played for notable Nigeria Premier Football League clubs in Nigeria, including Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars and since calling it time on his active football career, he ventured into coaching.
Since beginning life as a coach, the former central defender who won the NPFL title with Pillars is now the Chief coach of Nigeria National League side, Mailtantarki Care FC.
Following his side’s 0-0 draw with Kogi United in Lokoja, the tactician opened up on his helpful coaching strategy.
“It was a tough game and we are happy to get a point here, we knew it will be difficult because they (Kogi United) gave us a good match, we gave the respect but we kept the shape,” Zango told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“Being a defender really count, I was able to set a decent team that defend very well, at a time when needed to get play for a draw and when we need to protect our lead.
“Its also counting because as a defender, you must always think about what your opponent want to do to beat you and you will also be working to keep them away, in all, achieving good result like is the most important and I’m happy about it.
“We are an ambitious club but we are not desperate, we want to work hard to stay in the NNL  this season and see how it goes, but who knows, we can go all the way and finish top and we will take it.”
Mailtantarki and Zango will be hoping to consolidate on the point gained in Ilorin when they host Mighty Jets in Abuja on Sunday.
