Nigeria secured their spot in the Round of 16 of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia with a commanding 4-0 win over Venezuela in their final Group D match on Saturday in Cali.
The Falconets knew that a draw would suffice for progression, while Venezuela needed a win to advance. Nigeria took control early, with Chiamaka Okwuchukwu setting up Aminat Bello for the opening goal in the 16th minute.
The lead was doubled as Jumoke Alani’s corner kick was headed in by Okwuchukwu. In the additional minutes of the first half, Sabastine increased the advantage with a well-placed shot inside the box. Substitute Joy Igbokwe capped off the scoring with a long-range effort while the Venezuelan goalkeeper was off position.
Nigeria finished second in Group D, advancing alongside Germany despite a narrow 1-0 loss to South Korea. They now face a potential clash with either Japan or Austria in the Round of 16, continuing their quest for a third final appearance.
