Victor Boniface suffers injury after return from international duty

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria forward, Victor Boniface is out for the rest of the year upon return to the German side, Bayer Leverkusen, from international duty according to ScoreNigeria.

The 23-year-old suffered a thigh injury while on duty for Nigeria’s senior men’s national team.

He was on duty in the Super Eagles’ last two Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

The team could not win any of the two games after a 1-1 draw with Gernot Rohr’s side and a 2-1 loss to the Amavubis.

Boniface has scored 20 goals with nine assists in the German Bundesliga in two seasons including the current campaign.

His goal-scoring form for the German side is not in tandem with what is obtainable with the national team.

The prolific forward continues to search for his first goal for the Super Eagles despite his superb form for the club.

Before moving to Germany, Boniface previously played for Royale Union in Belgium and Bodo/Glimt, where his goal-scoring artistry caught the eyes of Bayer Leverkusen.
