Despite mounting interest from Newcastle United, Nigerian forward Victor Boniface is set to remain at Bayer Leverkusen for another season, according to his agent.
Boniface, 24, was close to sealing a move to Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia during the January transfer window, but the deal collapsed in the final moments. He went on to complete the season with Die Werkself, scoring 11 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions.
Although Leverkusen recently signed promising striker Christian Kofane from Spanish side Albacete, fueling speculation over Boniface’s future, his agent Aneke has dispelled any transfer rumours.
“Victor has ended the season after his trip to the national team. He’s on vacation now, will train hard during his vacation, and then return for preseason,” Aneke told BILD.
“There’s a new coach, a new setup, but still a very good team that’s back in the Champions League. Victor and I have never discussed a transfer.”
Boniface’s decision to stay is seen as a major boost for Leverkusen, who are preparing for a return to the UEFA Champions League and looking to challenge domestically once again after falling short in the Bundesliga title race.
With the club entering a new era under a yet-to-be-unveiled head coach, Boniface is expected to play a central role in their attacking plans for the 2025/26 season.
