Victor Osimhen blasts critics over Napoli switch

By Saheed Afolabi
Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has blasted critics who wrote him off when he arrived in Naples.
The Nigeria striker endured a torrid time for failing to hit the back of the net in four games this season with the Partenopei also a culprit before ending the goal drought against Udinese.
The Super Eagles forward said when he arrived his critics didn’t give him the chance to excel and they doubted his abilities of coping with the physicality of the Serie A.
Osimhen described Argentina world cup winner, Diego Maradona as the greatest of all time where no one could beat his enviable records in Naples, while recounting his facial injury which brought about his trademark mask.
“When I arrived at Napoli there were people who said that I wouldn’t have scored even four goals because Serie A is very physical and it’s like that but when you tell me I can’t do something, even if I don’t know how to do it, I want to learn and challenge those people,” Osimhen told BSN Sports.
“Those who said certain things are now hiding. For me, Maradona is the greatest of all time, no one else will ever be able to do something comparable in Naples.
“It was against Inter, the ball was arriving and I wanted to take it, the defender hit my face with his head and they had to operate on me. It was almost a fatal injury, I thank God that I’m still alive.”
Osimhen has netted six goals in the Italian Serie A this season as he’s on course to retain his title as the goal king in Italy.
