Victor Osimhen scores, Chuba Akpom shines in Ajax European League win over Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen’s last-gasp goal was not enough as Ajax claimed a 2-1 win over Galatasaray in the last group match of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Bertrand Traore was at the end of Chuba Akpom’s blocked attempt to break the deadlock for the host in the 23rd minute.

Kian Fitz-Jim doubled the advantage for the Dutch side in the 58th minute at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Amsterdam.

With the time running out for the Turkish side, Osimhen came good for the team with a late goal.

He gathered the ball off a rebound inside the box and fired home in the additional minutes of the second half.

The goal was Osimhen’s fifth in the Europa League this season with an assist for Galatasaray.

Both sides finished the group stage with 13 points apiece after eight games.

They will play in the Round of 16 Playoffs to stand any chance of remaining in the competition.
