Victor Osimhen has revealed the motivation behind his goalscoring form for Napoli in the Italian Serie A this season.
The 24-year-old continued his exceptional form in front of goal, scoring a brace in Napoli’s 4-0 demolition of Torino.
The brace makes it eleven goals in eleven games for the Nigerian marksman and sees the young striker set the record for the most goals scored by a Nigerian in a single Serie A season, beating previous feat held by Simy Nwankwo.
The 24-year-old also matched an African record held by Samuel Eto’o for the most goals scored by an African in a single Serie A season, having recalled that the Cameroonian scored 21 goals for Inter Milan in the 2010/11 season.
Reacting after the match, a excited Nigeria international attributed his motivation to ambitious African youths.
“I always want to score in every game for the youths of Africa to get something to eat, I know they always put their money on me to score,” Osimhen told media.
He will aim to continue his form in the colours of Nigeria when the Super Eagles face Guinea Bissau in the first leg of the doubleheader qualification battle for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire on Friday.
