Vinicius Junior replacement conspiracy spreads in Brazil despite silence from Real Madrid
An online conspiracy theory claiming that Vinicius Junior disappeared and was replaced by a lookalike has spread across Brazil, with posts suggesting the stand-in was used to fulfil the Real Madrid forward’s advertising contracts.
The claims began appearing on Brazilian forums and TikTok accounts in September 2026 after users said they had noticed physical differences in the player.
Those promoting the theory compared Vinicius Junior’s appearance at Brazil’s training camp during the match against Australia with earlier images of the Real Madrid player. They focused on an alleged difference involving a tattoo on his thigh and claimed cosmetic changes to his face showed that he was not the same person.
The theory has gained millions of views online, despite there being no evidence to support it and no public response from the player, his representatives or Real Madrid.
Claims involving the CIA and aliens
The allegations have since expanded beyond comparisons of the player’s appearance.
An account on X, @BlackBondPtv, claimed there was a theory that the CIA, the Rothschild family and “the ruling elites” had killed Vinicius Junior and replaced him after the World Cup. The post was published on 25 September 2026.
Other posts connected the supposed change in the player’s appearance to what they described as a “creeping alien invasion” during the World Cup, claiming Vinicius Junior and Neymar had been abducted. The claims were reported by Spanish newspaper Marca.
A video featuring a woman identified as Fou Bahiana was also widely shared around the world. In it, she said: “I have to tell you that I dreamed again about aliens invading a football stadium in Miami. I clearly saw how they abducted the players aboard the first ship that arrived. I was inside that ship, and when I got on, the mothership arrived and abducted thousands of people from the stadium. I saw unimaginable screaming, crying and suffering.”
A separate post shared on 28 September 2026 by the account Lives Foot described the claim as a Brazilian conspiracy theory alleging that Vinicius Junior had disappeared in mysterious circumstances and been replaced by a double so his advertising contracts could continue.
Neither the player’s representatives nor Real Madrid have addressed the claims. Those close to Vinicius Junior and the club have treated them as baseless online rumours that do not merit a response, while the posts continue to circulate widely on social media.
