By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Thousands of Warri Wolves fans welcomed back the pioneer assistant coach of the team, Atune Jolomi who was been unveiled as the team’s new head Coach on Friday.

Popularly known as “Mourinho” among club supporters, the Warri-born coach tactician joined Warri Wolves from Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) former champions, Akwa United where he worked during the 2021/2022 league season.
Jolomi, who is currently an Assistant Coach with the national U-17 team (Golden Eaglets) was among the pioneer member of the technical crew that led Warri Wolves to its first NPFL campaign under late Coach Solomon Ogbeide.
Top government functionaries at the coach’s unveiling ceremony held at the Warri City Stadium were the newly appointed Chairman of the club, Neville Ambekederemo, Delta State Football Association Chairman, Ken Nwamucha, and the Special Adviser on Sports to the Delta State Governor and former Nigerian International, Sam Sodje.
Warri Wolves last featured in top-flight NPFL in the 2020/2021 season and finished in the 18th position with 41 points from 38 games which ensured the team’s relegation to second-tier Nigeria National League (NNL) for the 2021/2022 season.
At the end of the 2021/2022 NNL season, Warri Wolves couldn’t return to the NPFL after a third-placed finish in Group B2 with 40 points after 24 games, two points behind Crown FC of Ogbomosho and four points short of Bayelsa United.
The immediate task of the new coach will be to attempt a return to the NPFL at the end of the 2022/2023 NNL season for Warri Wolves.
