Washington Spirit recall Deborah Abiodun from loan at Dallas Trinity

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Washington Spirit have recalled midfielder Deborah Abiodun from her loan spell at Dallas Trinity FC of the Gainbridge Super League, the clubs announced today.

Abiodun, fresh off helping Nigeria win the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), returns to Washington four months earlier than scheduled, with her loan originally set to run through the end of the calendar year.

During her time with Dallas, the 20-year-old midfielder logged more than 750 minutes across 14 appearances, including eight starts, showcasing her consistency and work rate.

“We’re thrilled to bring Deb back to the Spirit as we approach the home stretch of the 2025 season,” said Interim General Manager Nathan Minion.

“After following her impressive performances with Dallas and Nigeria this year, we know Deb will fit very well with this team and help us accomplish our goals.”

Abiodun joined the Spirit in January on a three-year contract with an option through 2028, beginning her professional career after two standout seasons at the University of Pittsburgh.

On the international stage, she has quickly established herself as a key figure for the Super Falcons, representing Nigeria at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2024 Olympic Games, and lifting the 2025 WAFCON trophy this summer.

She will team up with compatriot, Gift Monday at Washington Spirit.
